the Devian DVP2 & DVP3 Palm Cases Review |
| 02/19/00 |
I have been using a DVP3 for about 2 weeks. I work very long hrs so
I've
used it quite a bit. I have a Visor and I attached the velcro to the face
of the plastic cover provided by Handspring and place my handheld into
that. Therefore it keeps unwanted velcro off my Visor, which is especially
important as I will probably purchase modules for it some day. That adds
only a tiny amout of thickness to the case and provides me with two options
for carrying the Visor since the plastic Handspring cover fits on both the
front and back of the Visor. If I know I'm going to be using the Visor all
day and it will be in my coat pocket I leave the front facing out.
Otherwise I can flip it face down so that the hard plastic cover protects
the glass front of the Visor. I'm pleased at the quality of the case and
the stiffness. The only improvement would be to go ahead and use rigid
plastic inside the external flaps the give further protection to the
fragile cargo.
By the way, I have no problems with the buttons being pressed when it is
zipped. And I even have my little plastic Saturn credit card key in
there!!
It really does have that wonderful leather smell!

I bought the DVP3 for my Palm Pilot Professional and am anxiously awaiting
the arrival of its new occupant the Cassiopeia E-11.
Re: the notepad. I find it _very_ conveniant. Not only for writing down and
giving information away but also for those times (and there are many) when I
simply don't have time to power up and input someone's name, number or basic
info.
I also customized my DVP3. I've found that often I'm handed little slips of
paper with info that will ultimately end up in the my pilot (not to mention
receipts). Unfortunately the DVP3 didn't really have an adequate pocket to put
those little pieces of paper into (unless you count the space under the credit
cards on the front cover - which I don't - too inconveniant for note perusal and
retrieval). Soooo... I added a small strip of leather (about half the size of
the middle flap) and then had it sewn, lengthwise, onto the middle flap (the
opposite side of the notepad).
Now I have a VERY handy pocket to store all the misc. notes and receipts and the
whole "procedure" cost a whopping $10 at the local shomaker.
And lastly I highly recommend buying a pen/stylus device for the DVP3. Figure
you already have a stylus in your unit. What you'll need, if you plan on using
the notepad, is a PEN! (and a small one at that) There are plenty of good ones
to choose from.
Good luck,
Dani

I have the DV2 and it has one really bad problem. If you own a PilotPro
(maybe the III as well) and you put anything in the pockets of the case, it
bulges so much that the scrolling buttons stay PRESSED when the zipper is
closed. That means that if your alarm goes off while the case is closed,
it
never shuts down again.
I've lost 2 sets of batteries that way. With the first set, I just barely
caught it before everything disappeared. With the second set I lost
*everything*. My backup only retrieved 75% of what I had before.
I don't zip up the case any longer.
[I was going to send a copy of this note to Devian but I couldn't find any
email address on their site.]

Hi, I have a DVP-3 (so that is what it is called! :)
Just wanted to say that i actually left the notepad in, cos i find it
useful when I have to give _someone else_ something, ie a map or name or
number. I wont give them the Palm! *g*
This is despite teh risk of screen damage you mentioned - but why would
there be any, the paper is presumably smooth?
cheers,
Adrian
