Owner Comments on the PalmSuit Review

Just wanted to add another vote of support for the Tamrac Neo case,
available at Target (and undoubtedly other stores as well). The mod. 3718
case is sized perfectly for the Palm III (check out
http://www.tamrac.com/3606_thru_3692.htm for a photo). As a physician, I was
looking for something that I could tuck into my lab coat pocket that would
provide some protection without adding a lot of bulk. I also wanted a case
with a top-opening zipper (not a flap) so I could easily get to my Palm III
without removing the entire case from my pocket. The PalmSuit and the
RhinoPak 1000 both come close, but the Tamrac Neo mod. 3718 case offers
exactly what I wanted for a fraction of their cost ($7.99 at my local
Target). It's a well-made case that is well worth the price, and I recommend
it without reservation.

A few months ago I bought a  neoprene case made by Ergo from Staples. It cost only 9.99 and the neoprene had this cool feel to it.  Very odd that the Ergo case and the MarWare look identical, color, front pocket, and the side loop. The Ergo lacks the removable plastic insert, the metal loop ring, and the belt loop. Although the case was made for the PalmPilot, I was very disappointed that it didnt fit. As much as I tried I was unable to close the zipper around my Pilot or Palm3 ( Yes, I too own both ;) ).
Also being an anti-velcro on your Pilot person... I decided to keep this poorly made case to stow my Pilotmodem and TeleSpool.  Go's to show that cheap is not always better.

Just bought a PalmSuit, and it's exactly what I wanted:  a "wetsuit"
like case that would add some protection but not too much bulk-- I can
still slip it in my front pocket.   I like neoprene better then leather,
it's just more my style.  I like the white plastic insert which lets me
remove the flip cover and still feel like the Palm is protected.

One note also, I found the ordering and delivery process swift and
efficient.  I received my case within 24 hours though I had ordered
mid-day and did not pay for express shipping.  For me, this matters as
much as the whether it were $5-$10 cheaper.

A cheap alternative to the PalmSuit: Target (and maybe other similar
stores) have a neoprene all purpose pouch in the camera department,
Neo's model 3270 by Tamrac, Inc. which costs $10, and has a zip opening
on one short end, like an eyeglass case. It has a hanging loop and a
wide nylon web length on the back for use as a handle or to thread a
belt through.

I use it as extra protection during pocket or briefcase transport; in
conjunction with either the pilot hard shell cover or a wrist-mount
wearable cover I made for myself.

Many camera-type pouches are just the right size. Montgomery Ward had
some well-padded cases that looked like little backpacks, a larger
section for the camera or whatever, with a half-size pouch that looked
perfect for extra batteries or a Pilot modem. I wasn't happy with the
$15 official hard shell cover (outrageous, you get this free with a $30
calculator!) or the $30 official slim leather case (velcro stress right
on the flimsy memory door) so I would advise any new Pilot owner to go
straight to the camera section of K-Mart or Target for some immediate
protection, and take plenty of time shopping for the right high-end
case.
