Imagine this: You walk into a federal building wearing one of this e-holsters and carrying your pdas and cellphones, lets say under your coat, since you are in Chicago :-). You reach under your left arm to get your pda out, in order to walk through the metal detector gate. There is a 99% chance of all the guards have seen the Matrix, there will be n+1 guns pointed at you, before you even look up. Not a good idea, unless of course you have a high life insurance on you, but even than it is somewhat unselfish... |

Well, I actually hope someone would shoot me and put me out of my misery if I ever started wearing this kind of geek-wear! |

Hi My name is Peter and I'm a geek... Sounds like a good intro to my next 12 step program. I used a holster for a while. It was really nice to carry both my Visor and my keyboard around with me. I found that it was a bit too geeky when I wasn't wearing something over it. When I had a vest or jacket over it, no-one noticed it. I used Landware's burro pack which I just unclipped before getting in site of the security folks at any of the federal buildings I work in. I probably wouldn't use the e-holster because you can't easily unclip it without taking off your jacket. It really is a geeky thing to wear and I don't use it as often as I used to. I'm actually looking for an alternative. I'm not really a belt clip kind of guy and I'd like to have a way to attach my Visor and stowaway keyboard without geeking out too badly. Peace! Peter |

I'm thinking that the geek factor has been beaten to death. Not a lot left to say. I have a Grinder Gear nylon canvas bag on my belt for my Visor. So far, I haven't fielded any adverse comments. And, since I'm not carrying a gun, that may be a good sign for the Grinder crowd. Kayak Jack |

I think I had heard of this thing before, but the picture made me laugh so hard, I cried! If you carry that much stuff, use a shoulder bag or briefcase. If you want the military look, get an LBE with some pouches. You could even use a pistol holster to carry your cell phone or PDA! gm |

I found the following statement presumptious : "The PalmIIIc fit was a bit snug, so you may have some trouble getting bigger, less useful (i.e. WindowsCE/PocketPC) devices to fit." Specifically "less useful" - to whom are these devices less useful? Can you make the judgement that they are less useful to everyone, even those you have never met? |

"larger, less useful"? Have you seen an iPAQ compared to a IIIc? The iPAQ is smaller and light years ahead of the Palm in terms of what it can do. Palm is an advanced electric organizer...Pocket PC's (though I hate to admit it as I am not a fan of Microsoft)are truly hand-held computers. And there you have my two cents worth... |

Remember his/her whole "Why I choosed the IIIC over the iPaq" Thing? Of course what the reviewer has said was purely out of spite and jealousy. I dont want to start a war( not yet, or this soon), but I think that Palm would be the "Bigger, Less Useful(IIIC, IIIxe, M100) devices" |

Actually, I didn't have any problem with Julie's reasons for choosing the Palm IIIc over the iPaq. I thought her reviews so far have been unbias, and her reasons well explained. The eHolster reviewer made it sounded like it was universally accepted that WindowsCE/PocketPC devices are less useful than Palms. May be he meant to state his personal opinion, but it did not read so. |

Please use this topic to talk about the eHolster and not Palm vs PPC. Thanks. |

Well, I'm no stranger to using a holster to carry about a PDA. I started with a holster for my Newton MP130....and I did get lots of strange looks....I was living in Canada at the time. But, I never really had any trouble with it. Even when walking onto the nearby military base, I worked for a defence contractor. Later (after moving to the US and getting a Palm III), I picked up the BurroPak....and while I got some strange reactions from people at work. I didn't encounter any resistance to having it. Including international air travel. During the summer I switched to an e-Holster, because I liked the look and it seemed better suited to holding my growing collection of e-gadgets. I mainly wanted to move the cellphone (that I had at the time) off of my belt. There wasn't as much reaction to using the e-holster at work, probably because people have become accustom to seeing me with a holster of some kind. Recently I just got back from a cruise of the Western Caribbean (Sea Princess). And, I didn't have any problems clearing security with the holster on. I wore the holster pretty much continuously the whole trip. I had one pouch for glasses and a pen and the neoprene pouch that I normally have my Palm Vx in....I used to carry around my Canon ELPH 370Z. Found it to be a perfect arrangement, better than having a camera dangling around my neck or other usual arrangements. Sure I got lots of questions about it from passengers and cruise staff. One of the head waiters commented that he checked out information on the eHolster....don't know if he'll be getting one..... ------------------ |
