That was a nice article, and very informative. But would it be possible for a review of what it is like to actually USE the Pocket PC on the internet?? I'd like to see some screenshots of what various places look like when viewed on the Pocket PC. I'd also like to know how fast the connection is, how fast things are rendered, comparison with other palm type devices, etc. Can I really surf the internet with one of these new toys? Or is it just more wishful thinking? |

an excellent, exquisite, article, much better and easier to understand than the one posted on the microsoft website. as a previous post stated, if I had not known before how to connect, this would have told me clearly. Eric Jones(doriath22) Jornada 545 rocks |

I am very glad that everyone likes my article, for I wasn't expecting all this. I am still on vacation, but in about 20 days you should start seeing me post more often once I get on schedule (for school) again. Thanks, ------------------ |

Hi! Thank you for this great article. I have some questions still floating around in my head though. I just bought a Casio EM-500 two days ago and I really want to connect to the internet. I see that on the Casio webpage they have a modem for sale that is compatible for the EM-500. Do I just plug in and connect? I also have an account with AOL and I see that the EM-500 has AOL as one of it's programs. I am wondering if it's that easy to do, just plug in and browse? Please help me with any info you might have. (I am pretty illiterate so any advice will help!) Mahalo from the Aloha State! |

Tamiko: I don't know that much about what you are asking about. The only thing that I know slightly about is the modem that connects to the bottom of the EM-500. First of all, it works on all Pocket PC Casio devices. I would think it would be like any normal modem being you connect it the same way. You plug it into the bottom SERIAL port, then do all those steps I wrote about in my article. Sorry about the little knowledge I have about your questions, |

I tried, following the directions you provided (which are excellent, BTW), but can't connect. However, I suspect it's a Compuserve issue - any Compuserve Classic users out there who have managed to connect? I get all the way to Authorizing, and then the connection closes. I think it has something to do with CS requiring the password to be entered a second time, but can't find a way around it. |

Did you know that theres a cable that connects your cell phone to your pocket pc so you can browse the web? All you need is a web enabled cell phone and thats your modem. Call janeen at supplynet and she'll give you more info. 800-826-0279x1110 |

Hello I own a jornada 520 pocket pc and I´ve been trying to connect to the internet . I was able to configure my nino 300 before but can´t seem to be able this time around. If I remember well I had trouble with the dns server ( I think I had to put my servers number) before it worked. When I try to connect the jornada tells me "no carrier detected" I wonder what I am doing wrong. I also have my doubts on the dialing properties. In " G, F, E thing, I don´t know if there is a comma or not or if it is capital letters or not .. Please help me. |

golfer, Sorry for the long delay, but I was investigating your problem. I have not found anything that would explain what is going on. Have you tried reduing the whole thing? I had to try-try-again and eventually it worked. Thanks, |

http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/ppc-internet-howto-article.html This article was extremely helpful to me as I am a PPC novice. Even though I had the seetings all correct it was helpful to know 100% that the settings were not the problem I was having. Thanks for letting me know it was there Julie. |

Could you tell me the hardware required to connect an ipaq h1940 to internet via pstn? Is it possible to buy a regular external usb modem and connect it to the ipaq's usb slot for that reason? |
|
Julie Administrator Posts: 2752 |
Is PSTN just regular old dial up? If so, you'll need a modem. Here's a link to one at Amazon: There is no way that I know of to use a USB modem with that model of iPAQ. I don't believe it has the USB hosting feature, and even if it did, I'm not sure that feature includes the ability to use modems. I could be wrong though. |
