DARN! They'll never come up here either: CANADA! Canadians are basically treated like women in the 1800s or some other time like that. Addition: Oh wait. I don't have a PocketPC, and buying one just to go there would be pretty dumb, although I would appreciate it if I got a free one [clears throat]! Your point at the end is one thing about Microsoft that a lot of people don't realize. Despite what the uninformed masses think, they are a REAL class act to work with and are staffed with a LOT of great people. I'm glad to see them get recognition for that. |

Some Guy, I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. Microsoft IS a class act in my book. Judie :0) |

I must say, that was among the best stories I have ever read. I was on the edge of my seat. I laughed, got excited, and laughed some more. What a cool time you must have had, I can not wait until they come to New York! Last I heard they will be in New York City. Well, I must say, the city is not really my favorite place... but a Pocket PC fanfest sure sounds like it is! Thanks for the great read, |

Judie, Great article on the Dallas Fan Fest. I had the privilege to volunteer at the kickoff Fan Fest in Seattle earlier this month. Working both the Local User Group table and the Beam and Share. Working as a volunteer rather than an attendee was a much more rewarding experience for me. The chance to talk with many more people and actually help many, was great. I think you captured the scene magnificently. And yes, Microsoft is a class act in how they work with people. In fact they provide the meeting room at the Mobile products building on the Microsoft campus for our local Handheld Users Group, with Beth and Derek dropping in from time to time. Dennis Clark |

Judie, Thanks for the fun read. After having attended similar events in the past, I prefer experiencing them vicariously through reports like yours - it's a lot easier on the legs! |

Contrary to my picture which looks like I was heavily intoxicated (smile), I was quite sober and had a great time. After my return to work, I found that the Hotel did indeed charge the room to my credit card because they faxed me an invoice. Oh well, my company is picking up the cost. - Kyle |

Is there an age requirement or ANY other requirement other than having a Pocket PC in order to enter a Pocket PC fanfest? |
|
Judie Clark unregistered |
EmXtrix, I worked the door - and the ONLY thing I was looking for as a requirement for entry - was the possession of ANY Pocket PC. If you have an opportunity to attend a FanFest - GO!!! Judie :0) |

Alrighty, I have another question though. What about developers? Are there any special oppurtunities for Pocket PC developers at the fanfest? Thanks again |
|

Possibly! If you have a shareware/freeware version of your software, you can load it up on the beam & share computers and get it out there to the attendees. :0) Plus - they have a thing going all night where Beth will highlight either programs people attending have written themselves, or cool/unusual mods and software on people's Pocket PCs. When you get there - go show it to her, and she will display it on the overhead, and talk to you about it over the PA. |

The program that I am working on (a PocketStar project: http://www.pocketstar.f2s.com), is not supposed to be finished until this summer. As much as I would like to push up the date with my development team, I do not think it will happen by June 28th (fanfest date for New York) :-(. Do you think Beth would still be interested in hearing about it? Thanks, |
|

EmXtrix, I am sure that Beth would love to hear about ANYTHING related to Pocket PCs! Good luck with your program! Judie :0) |

Great article!!! I am glad to have heard about the events from a firsthand acct. because I live in a remote area and there is little chance of a fanfest ever even occuring anywhere in MO. I enjoyed the details, but I wonder why it was neccessary to take a laptop into the first briefing thing... Were there any NEW CE devices previewed??? ------------------ |

dorieth22, There were no new CE devices that I saw being previewed, but it was my first opportunity to see/hold/play with an @mingo. Which laptop are you referring to? If you mean Beth's Sony - I think she had it with her because it was simply TOO COOL! :0) |
