I also have multiple pairs of mobile docker pants. A couple of my pairs do indeed have 2 stowaway seam pockets! FYI

Great way to hold all our stuff without looking too geeky!

Please remember to empty ALL pockets before laundry day! There are so many.

My friend's wife almost washed his Palm and cell phone along with his Dockers Mobile - twice!

Great review.... but I'm shocked at how wrinkled those pants look!!!

Did you just pick them up off the floor for those pictures?! If that's what they truely look like, yuck. I too am not a fan of not using a steam iron but those wrinkles...!!!

I was considering these pants but now maybe I'll just get them in black to disguise their prone-to-wrinkle look.

Hey Greg, I have one of those Surefire E1s too. They are so cool! The 15 lumens bulb is brighter than all my 2-cell MAglite flashlites!

Anyway, cool choice!

Are they available in women's sizes?

Thanks for the postive comments, this is my first review (and far from my last...).

Sorry about the wrinkles in the shot - they actually get less wrinkled as the day goes by - go figure (I "modeled" them after taking the detailed shots - that picture is the worst the wrinkles have ever been for me...).

Yeah, I love my Surefire (mine is the 6P) one of those things that you never knew you needed until you have it.

There are no specific ladies' sizes listed, but you could go try some on, you never know...

Thanks again, everyone,
Mikey

I replied to another thread on the mobile pant on visorcentral.com

http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?s=2c6fc525112785855e75ba2847a2e4fd&threadid=20744&perpage=15&pagenumber=2

but here are my further comments:

There seem to be two versions of the Mobile Pant available. The above address has more info. If it doesn't work, go to visorcentral.com and look at the discussion for the Mobile Pant review there. In short, I have the "single vault pocket, dual seam pocket" version for all threee pants that I own.

I like my pants alot. I don't ususally get to wear them at work because of the very casula dress here, and lab work will destroy pants. I place my Visor in the left seam pocket, my 8290 in the right seam, flashlights in the left, and pocketknives and keys in the right. I use the vault pocket for stuff that I don't need to access right away, but the contents vary; usually, it's a pocketknife that I don't want scratched by other items. Mone are never as wrinkled as the one in the images. I don't iron them; I just fold them after taking them out of the dryer.

Mike: your pocket contents are very similar to mine. I also carry at least a Surefire E1 with me. I like the E2 so much that I end up carrying that one instead most of the time. The 6P was my first Surefire; I now have 5 if you include the P111 light. Have you seen the Arc-AAA? It's an LED light that uses AAA batteries and has a processor so that the light output stays constant. There's a SE version that's hard (type 3) anodized. Given the short battery life of Surefires, an LED light is handy. I don't carry a multitool, but I do carry at least 2 Spydercos. Believe it or not, I sometimes use a cell phone case on my Mobile Pant so free up the right side seam pocket for the E2 and a knife.

Nice review. Say, is there enough room in those pants for a travel-iron?

I own two pairs of these, and am female. While they do not come specifically in women's sizes, if you can wear men's trousers comfortably, you can wear these fine.

thanks for the review, mike...i've been meaning to try out a pair myself. two things regarding the review:

1. where can i purchase a palm 5000?
2. under "cons" you left out a negative that you discussed in the article: seam zipper is hard to close; vault zippers are hard to open

Yeah, I have the 6P too with the 120 lumens bulb. That makes a great legal self-defense weapon!!!
The only Surefires I have are the E1 and the 6P

Anyone heard anything on whether Dockers will be releasing a regular fit version? I haven't seen anything definite yet, but last I checked, it was just relaxed fit.

Oh yeah, I wanna add about the seam zipper. I managed to mangle one zipper, but Macy's exchanged the pant for a new one. I figured out that to close the pocket, you have to hold the fabric below the zipper, not the end of the zipper itself to make the closing operation painless. It's definately not a one-handed operation.

I own three of the two seam pocket version of the pants and love them. I wish they would come out with a navy pair. I too was accused of having a utility belt at work. My typical carry at work with my Mobile Pants are:

Right seam pocket: Nokia 8260 phone

Right front pocket: Crawford Kasper Pocket Knife

Right Vault Pocket: Eye drops, Blistex

Left Seam Pocket: Sharper Image Deep Pocket Wallet

Left Front Pocket: Palm Vx

Right Rear Pocket: Tissues

Left Rear Pocket: Empty

On belt: RIM 950 Pager; Swiss Tool Plus pouch with Swiss Tool, Micra, Photon 3; and Freestyle pedometer

I have developed a technique to zip the seam pockets one-handed. I grip the zipper pull with my thumb and index fingers, simultaneously I hold the pants material down with the tips of my middle and ring fingers. I then pull the zipper up in steps as a reposition my fingers to produce tension for the zipper.

Great review! A clarifying comment: like pants made specifically for traveling, the Mobile pant sports zippers on the pockets partly to prevent pickpockets from easily relieving you of your beloved gadgets. In fact, manufacturers of traveling pants call them "security pockets" for this very reason, even for the usual front, rear, and cargo pockets, as long as they use zippers for closure.

Hope that helps a bit with those frustrated with the presence of zippers. It's definitely better than buttons or snaps, IMHO.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I am jealous of you recode owners - guess its time for a new wardrobe (LOL).

It's also nice to hear that I am not the only "undercover" gadget geek out there.

Thanks again,
Mikey

Is there anywhere you can buy these in Australia, or failing that, anywhere you could order them online and get them shipped internationally?

Thanks,

Terence.

Tried a pair, but got the single hidden leg pocket model (wasn't aware that there were 2 versions). Gave up on them because the zippers required a two-handed operation.

I received a pair of these pants for Christmas. I'm not sure what version I got but I find that the lower two pockets, the ones with zippers are so small I can not fit my PDA inside them. I have a Motorola V60c cell phone, one of the smallest cell phones on the market, and I have a hard time fitting it inside these pockets.

I think which ever pair I have, they're not the right ones.

Tom,

The 5000 was the very first Palm, then called Pilot, it came in 2 versions: the 1000 and the 5000 with 128 and 512K of RAM if memory serves right.

Unfortunately Kohl's doesn't seem to have the Dockers mobile on their website anymore.

Do you know if JCPenny sells internationally? I didn't see anything about this on their site.

They're the best - wear them all the time, and have both the single and dual side pocket versions. I also have a pair of navy blue Docker Mobile Shorts!!

Now, if someone would only come up with a pair of Levi's with the same arrangement. . .

buy em on ebay

[I like the seam pockets. I have a pair with seam pockets on both sides which I like best. Also the material is microfiber rather than cotton canvas.

I also have the cotton canvas, a tan and a black. These have only one seam pocket and a double front pocket.

We need more pants like these for our "gadgets". I have cell phone & Pentax Optio small digital camera.
