Seems like a pretty good unit for the price, but for the high-pitched whine.

One Q; is the tuner cable-capable? It doesn't sound like it has cable-input, but I suppose you could get an RF adapter, but the question remains whether the tuner is capable of 50+ channels or more...

Thanks, nice review.

Supposedly it is cable ready. I don't have cable in my area, so I can't test it.

NO CABLE?!?!?!?! Man, and I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere.<From Star Wars..."If there's a bright spot in the universe, you're in the town it's farthest from."> This device seems pretty cool, except for the high pitched whine. Were you able to find a source of the whine...maybe the power supply? This looks like a cool unit, something I might just buy.

a remote without a power button??? ummm, that's like a solar flashlight or screen door for submarines. these guys definitely need to take some basic design classes.

It could be the power supply... I'm not sure. I actually just found another review that also mentioned that their unit hummed. So it's not just a fluke with mine.

I have 2 GMX 6" TV's One does have an on/off button on the remote the other doesn't.

The second TV I bought had a high pitched whine so I sent it back for replacement. Both now do not have this whine.

Very good value TV/monitors. I use mine for DVD play back in the car. Excellent picture with adequate viewing angle and good sound quality for such a small speaker.

Looks like they ripped off Sharp's line of Aquos LCD TVs.

Just bought the 7" model recently on the net.
Although I lived in Australia and mention that to their representative. I received one with "PAL I" tuner shipped to me from UK. (I have their email reply telling me it can accept Australian TV broadcast before I place an order, which is "PAL B/G"). And they don't want to answer my email anymore. I lost confident in Internet Shopping after this one.

Now I have to use it as a Monitor, lucky it has AV input. Although it looks like it has two speakers, It got only one Audio input, so it is Mono anyway.

One thing that strikes me most is the poor picture quality in PAL. It looks perfect with NTSC signal. But PAL image looked jagged edge. May be this unit is basically a NTSC monitor with PAL as a second thought.

Besides all the negative comments, it does have some nice touches. Like the full functions remote. Vivid color reproduction, Enough pixel for a decent picture. There is no product like this in Australia. I wonder why?

After this I believe I will not buy from the net again.

I have also bought the 7" widescreen model. I live in the UK and mine is PAL I.

The picture quality is not as good as the 6" but the larger size and better (widescreen) format makes up for it.

The first one I received failed but was replaced fairly quickly.

Build quality is not inspiring but they are cheap compared to some.

Ask for a replacement, but I was told to pay postage both way and custom clearance again. That is at least another US$100 for a mistake the seller made. It is BAD.

Anyway, the off-air TV broadcast will cease in a few years. (2008 if no change) A TV tuner will be useless by then. So I think I will stick with it for a while.

I like to add that the viewing angle is narrow up and down. (It is better side by side). This is annoying since I use it on bedside and I have to maintain my post all the time. Whenever I want to sit up or lie down I have to adjust the TV's angle again and again.

I have a Panasonic DVD player with 7" lcd screen that I bought oversea, which has a better picture and viewing angle. But too bad it is NTSC only.

Just found out the 6" model available in Australia's shop for AUD$499. That is about US$250, by the brand Lenoxx.

I have had the little TV for a month now, and Im very happy with it. I have it wired to by Satellite Receiver using the RF adapter that comes with it. Its good value piece if kit.

I bought a similar TV like this, on the outside looking exactly the same but another brand on the front, Silvan. I bought it in Canary Island in a local shop. I got home to Sweden and started to use it, and after some 10 hours of use the TV broke down. All black, no sign of life. I have read in some webpages that it is extreemly sesitive for the voltage it´s supplied with. It should not exceed 12 V DC. My powersupply gives 12.5 V DC. I don´t know if that´s the reson or not.
If there is someone who knows where I can find a schematic diagram over the electronics so I can find the broken components and have it repaired, I should be very happy
/Mats

My GMX had developed a problem.

The backlight does not work at the moment I switched it on. Sometimes I wait a few minutes and it turn on itself. I don't think it can last long.

http://www.merconnet.com

One of the units stopped working the other day. First I only had the backlight at turn on. I turned it off and back on. Nothing.

It was a poor soldered joint on the power connector. It was resoldered and is now fine.
